Goodwins, Tettenhall

We visited Goodwins, Tettenhall, Wolverhampton a little before Christmas and I never did share our thoughts.  We walked in and had a warm welcome from a cheerful waitress who showed us to our table.  The décor inside is lovely, classy and modern.

We were surprised at the prices, we visited on a Sunday so we had the option of Sunday lunch.  The Roast Beef is £9.99 which I think is really good value compared to other upmarket pubs in the area whose service and food quality leave a lot to be desired!!
I did go for the roast beef and it was amazing!  I don't normally go for beef as it is normally overcooked, chewy and dry, this was not.  It was beautiful and pink, so tender, lots of veg, home made Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes that were so soft and fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside.  The waitress was happy to bring us a drop more gravy for our meals.
For dessert we had the Cookie Dough Cheesecake and Cheesecake Bombe (a rich millionaire caramel rolled in choc chips, then surrounded with creamy buttermilk cheesecake, rolled in crunchy golden oat biscuit crumb. Served with chocolate pudding ice cream).  I do like something different rather than the usual run of the mill desserts, these were lovely and good portion sizes too.  Coming in both under £5, they were good value for money too.
As a summary, I would really recommend Goodwins, they aren't overpriced for a nice pub/wine bar in the area.  I would say they are priced about right, the drinks were good value too.  Service was exceptional it really was, our waitress was really attentive and pleasant.  It is one we will be returning too :)

Indigo - Indian Restaurant

Mark wanted to go for an Indian for his birthday so I thought I would try and find somewhere a bit special and not your usual Indian.  I came across Indigo in Penn and after looking at Tripadvisor and speaking to a couple of colleagues that had been I decided to book it.  We arrived early and were told we could have a better table if we weren’t there for an all night session, which we decided to do as we said we wouldn’t be any longer than 2 hours.

As we were new customers they brought us out a tray of different curry sauces with poppadoms to try which we thought was a great idea as we both never venture any further from our usual (Chicken Tikka Masala and Chicken Tikka Saagwala) for fear we might not like it.  This way we could see whether we liked the sauce before we ordered.  So we decided to try something different and Mark went for North Indian Garlic Chilli Lamb Tikka and I went for Methi Gosht (also lamb) – I thought that lamb isn’t normally great at an Indian so it would be a good way to test them!  We were both impressed, the lamb was tender and not fatty at all, I had a keema naan which was beautiful and not stodgy like the norm.  For starters we had some chicken and fish pakora, which were lovely and freshly cooked.  We are a bit spoilt though as I love the chicken pakoras from our local Indian and these weren’t as tasty but were a lot fresher.  Also the sauces for the pappadoms were divine, mint sauce and chutneys etc. they were like nothing I have ever tasted before.  The interior as well was new and modern and really funky, by the time we came out it was heaving!

Somewhere we will be visiting again and I would recommend!

The Cowshed

Mum treated us to a lovely meal at The Cowshed, Pattingham.  However I was a little disappointed with the menu choices.

Being pregnant I can’t eat pate or soft cheese and three of the starters consisted of these options.  Left me with mussels (eurgh!), soup (I have that for lunch every day at work!) or prawns – so I went for the prawns.  They were lovely, served with a sweet chilli linguini which wasn’t too sweet and had a kick to it.  Prawns were cooked perfectly and it was a decent sized portion.

For mains, the lamb and duck both came with a fruit sauce which I don’t like, turkey I had been eating for the past 2 weeks, the chicken was in cream which I am not keen on, fish which was creamy again so I didn’t feel there was much choice with sauces being very similar.  So I went for the veggie option which was roast pepper and goats cheese filo parcels.  These were lovely, huge portion again with a lovely tasty sauce.  We had accompaniments for the table consisting of peas, dauphinoise potatoes and some lovely roast vegetables.  Again plenty of them!

For dessert I almost couldn’t manage one but I went for the lemon posset thinking it would be small and light, it wasn’t it was huge but it was delicious!!  My hubby had baileys chocolate tart of which I stole some and that too was divine!

I love the restaurant, never had a bad meal, and for somewhere that is a bit pricey and makes the food look pretty they still serve decent portions.
